Illegal Downloads Strictly Prohibited in France

We all know that illegal download is against the law. However, most people do it anyway because of its practicality side - it is absolutely free of charge. From MP3 songs to movies to TV series to computer games to software and much more - almost anything can now be downloaded from the Internet as long as you have a personal computer and an access to Internet.

A lot of Internet users have the habit of downloading files illegally. Although it is against the law, most users prefer it that way because they believed that everyone is doing it and nothing happens. These Internet users are not bothered even if the entertainment industry loses millions of dollars from revenue as long as they are able to download the files they need.

However, if you live in France then you might consider downloading files legally to avoid breaking the law. Since January 2010, a new law in France, known as the "The Creation and Internet Bill" has been taken into effect that makes illegal downloading indeed illegal and punishable by law. If an Internet user is caught downloading files illegally for the first time, he or she will receive a warning email. If they continue, they will be summoned to appear in court before a judge. The judge will have the power to fine the offender and/or suspend the offender's access to Internet.

The law is supported by France President Nicolas Sarkozy and by the entertainment industry. With The Creation and Internet Bill, a new agency is established called as the Distribution of Works and the Protection of Copyright on the Internet or HADOPI. Said agency is responsible for controlling and regulating access to Internet.
